Balázs Demény is the winner of the 19th Ile de France (2017), the Hans von Bülow (2015), the Carl Filtsch International Piano Competitions, and second prize winner of the International Chopin Piano Competition (Budapest). He has been performing in some of the top concert halls and festivals: the Gasteig München, the Great Hall of the Palace of Arts Budapest, the Bucharest Atheneum, the Great Hall of The Budapest Liszt Academy, the Raiding Liszt Festival, the Budapest Spring Festival or the Milano World Exhibition. Japan’s most prestigious young pianistsʼ showcase, the Yokohama International Piano Concerts Series has selected him to perform in the 2016 series, where he performed Bartók’s IIIrd Piano Concerto and a Liszt- Bartók recital. Besides this he was awarded by other competitions and festivals: he is the winner of the „Géza Anda” Scholarship, the „ISA Prag-Wien-Budapest” Festival has awarded him the „Pianist” and „Kodály” prizes, owner of the „Hindemith” Scholarship and two times winner of the „Communitas” Scholarship. He is the first prize winner of the „S. Toduta” International Piano Competition and the winner of the Hungarian Music Festival in Bucharest. His second solo album „Schumann and Bartók” was released in 2015 under the label of BMC.

He is regularly playing around Europe. In July 2016 he had played Tchaikovsky’s b-flat minor concerto with Mr. Jesús López-Cobos, following that he performed Liszt’s Totentanz in Budapest on the „Sziget” festival. His first CD, entitled „Liszt’s memorial Year 2011” was followed by a 10 solo recital concert tour in Hungary and Romania. He had already played in almost every major city in Europe, such as Berlin, Rome, Paris, Prague, Lisabon, Bucharest, Budapest, Bruxelles, München, Cluj, Arad, etc.

He has participated in masterclasses held by György Kurtág, Zoltán Kocsis, Arie Vardi, Avedis Kouyoumdjian, Georg Sava, Eldar Nebolsin, Péter Nagy, Imre Rohmann, András Kemenes, Dmitri Bashkirov and many others. As a solist he had played over 70 orchestral concerts and has a broad variety of piano concerto repertoire from Bach untill contemporaries, working together with conductors like Jesús López-Cobos, Gábor Hollerung, Ligeti András, Mihail Agafiţa, Ion Ilarion Galati, Alfonso Saura, Theo Wolthers, Gheorghe Costin, Dorin Frandeş, Horváth József, Jankó Zsolt and many others.

He was born in 1989 in Cluj-Napoca and began his piano studies in the „Sigismund Toduţă” music school in Pál Buzás’s class. He continues his studies in the „Bartók Béla” music highschool in Budapest as a student of Gábor Eckhardt. From september 2009 he is in the „Liszt Ferenc” Academy of Music as a student of András Kemenes. From 2011 he is studying simultaneously in Budapest and Berlin, at the „Hanns Eisler” Hochschule für Musik, with prof. Georg Sava, then from 2013 he is attending his „Solist-Master” studies at „Universität der Künste” Berlin, studying with prof. Pascal Devoyon. From 2016 he is attending the doctoral school in the „Liszt Ferenc” Academy of Music in Budapest.
